Christine Allen is an abstract artist who moved to Cornwall in 1985. Since then she has involved herself in a variety of creative fields, utilizing the skills gained from teacher training in the 70's.

About 10 years ago while working with stroke victims and taking an Art Therapy course, suddenly her own creativity became unlocked with a need to paint and express visually thoughts, feelings and imaginings that lay filed away in her head.

Her studio is in an amazing earth built building in an Eco Park on the wild North Cornish coast at Porthtowan.

Chris is a long-standing co-owner of a successful Gallery in St Ives. She is also an associate member of the Penwith Society of Artists, recently exhibiting in the Penwith Gallery.

'An image begins with something I have seen, a particular light, a glimpse, a word, something out of context, a piece of rusty metal, anything that creates a stir in my imagination.

My paintings are not necessarily the result of a specific concept. The finished pieces evolve out of a process of continual change, hand and eye coincidences, and an innate knowledge of colour and composition. I like to explore the boundary lines between representation and abstraction, colour, geometric form, and paint itself.'

The inspiration for my most recent exhibitions at The Falmouth Festival and the RWA in Bristol is from travelling, both physically and imagined, between rural and urban environments; a combination of everyday snapshots, emotions and thoughts transformed into abstract caption.
