Paintings & children’s book launch

I paint in response to the inspiration of the land and the sea, My paintings are a narrative of a life

lived within two very different landscapes, the chalk of Sussex and the granite coast of Cornwall.

I have always felt compelled to explore, photograph and paint the countryside in all its changing

moods and seasons.

My paintings are unpopulated, I am the sole observer. The marks in the landscape made by man, the

winding paths and ancient field systems are the geometry of my work. I seek the structure beneath

the earth, and at times express this structure through pure abstraction. I absorb each place I paint

on a subconscious level and this inner landscape re-emerges in my abstract painting. I strive to

reflect the sense of peace and timelessness that certain places radiate.

I work from sketches, photographs and research historical and geological data to further inform my

work. I use acrylic paint in layers which I scratch and score to produce rich textures. Colour and

texture are very important to me. I tend to work obsessively in series, and will have five paintings

on the same subject, though none of them will look the same once completed. Usually out of the

five paintings one good one emerges.
