Figurative seascapes & landscapes oil/acrylics
2013 is my year of painting water. Opening in February and finishing in December, the show, titled SPLASH!, features rough seas, calm seas, peaceful inland lakes and gushing waterfalls on canvas and board. Sometimes my work depicts sail boats, swimmers, fishermen and surfers but water is the common denominator.
Working in or under water is very challenging. In these situations, sketching is impossible so I rely on the underwater camera to capture the moment and more importantly, what the Japanese call ‘the inner eye’. I’ve swum with seals, capsized in sailing dinghies and been tossed about by the wave. This year’s specialisation has been tremendous fun and I hope to continue with it in the future.
