Recent restoration work has been completed on the causeway joining the Cornish mainland to St Michaels Mount.
The Penwith storms of 2014 caused havoc up and down the country and the causeway to St Michaels Mount was no exception. The only land route between the mainland and the Mount was ripped apart by the strong seas and winds.
When the storm subsided local experts Cornwall Heritage Builders worked to recover the original granite setts from the sea and at low tide restored the walkway to it’s former glory.
The causeway is centuries old and is an essential route of access to thousands of visitors every year and also the twelve families who reside on the Mount. There is a boat service which ferries people across at high tide however it is a unique experience to walk the cobbles to the Island.
